Astrop/Hill Design
in the 60s and 70s
CAROLINE SMITH
Early 70s was a major fashion illustrator for such magazines as Harpers, Queen, Elle, Vogue and Cosmopolitan. Designed and illustrated on top fashion accounts such as Mary Quant, Libertys, Simpsons. In the late 70's worked with top U.K. animation groups on character styling and as designer/illustrator on Crabtree and Evelyn and Culpepper's packaging. Since the early 80's has run Sun Studios Limited with John Astrop working for major clients throughout the world. Her commissions in styling and product design have ranged from teacups to typefaces, symbols, logos, shop exteriors, interiors and large murals for hotels in Hong Kong, Singapore and Egypt.

JOHN ASTROP spent many years as art director in major London advertising agencies and was elected a Fellow of the Society of Industrial Artists in 1970. In the late sixties he was joined by Eric Hill to form Astrop/Hill Design Associates working on brand images for major advertising accounts throughout Europe. The group provided a great deal of the images that were to give the look of "swinging London" during this period. This group won many design awards and was the subject of articles in Graphis Magazine for it's work in house styling and brand imagery. John is also a writer and has provided the copy for accounts such as Max Factor, Swissair, Remington, and Crabtree and Evelyn. Since the 80's has worked with Caroline Smith on styling and product design.
